Roadside Assistance Insurance

Like most people, you probably don’t think about roadside assistance insurance until you need it. And by then, it’s usually too late! Roadside assistance is one of those things that we hope we never have to use but are glad to have when we do.

This type of insurance can be a life-saver in a pinch and can prevent you from getting stranded on the side of the road. In this blog post, we will discuss what roadside assistance insurance is, who needs it, and how to get the best coverage for your needs.

What Is Roadside Assistance Insurance?

Roadside assistance insurance is a type of insurance that covers the cost of services like towing, flat tire changes, jump starts, and fuel delivery. It is designed to help you in the event of a breakdown or accident.

Most roadside assistance programs will cover you for a certain number of miles from the place of breakdown or accident. Some programs will also cover you for a certain number of days.

How Do I Get Roadside Assistance Coverage?

There are a few ways you can get roadside assistance coverage:

Your Car Insurance Policy

Your car insurance policy may include roadside assistance if you have comprehensive and collision coverage. Be sure to check with your insurance provider to see what coverage they offer. You may be able to add roadside assistance to your policy for an additional cost.

From Companies

If you purchase a new car, some companies offer roadside assistance with the vehicle. You may also be able to get roadside assistance through an extended warranty. Additionally, some credit card companies offer roadside assistance programs.

Auto Club Memberships

Many auto clubs, such as AAA, offer roadside assistance coverage. If you are a member of an auto club, be sure to check with them to see what coverage they offer.

What Does Roadside Assistance Cover?

Each roadside assistance plan is different. However, some of the most common things a roadside assistance service plan could cover include:

  • Break downs and repairs for your car
  • Towing to a repair location
  • Towing to a gas station
  • Flat tires that require a repair
  • Locksmith services
  • A jumpstart if your car battery dies

Who Needs Roadside Assistance Insurance?

Most people who drive regularly should have emergency roadside assistance. This is especially true if you live in a rural area or travel frequently. If you are an AAA member, you may already have some coverage. However, it is always good to check with your insurance provider to see what coverage they offer.

How to Get the Best Coverage for Your Needs

When shopping for a roadside assistance program policy, it is important to compare different plans and find one that best suits your needs. You should consider factors like the type of vehicle you drive, how often you travel, and distance from home when choosing a plan.

You should also consider the coverage limits and deductibles your auto insurance provider offers. Once you have found a plan that meets your needs, be sure to read the fine print to understand what is covered and what is not.

Rules and Exclusions for Roadside Assistance Coverage

Most roadside assistance plans have some rules and exclusions. For example:

  • You must have collision and comprehensive coverage. Most auto insurance companies require policyholders to have collision and comprehensive coverage before they can add roadside assistance.
  • Roadside assistance doesn’t cover every vehicle. Many roadside assistance plans cover only the vehicles included on the policy. If you’re driving someone else’s car and it breaks down, your insurance may not cover it.

The Benefits of Roadside Assistance Insurance

Roadside assistance insurance is a great way to protect yourself and your family in the event of a breakdown or accident. It can help you get back on the road quickly and safely. When shopping for roadside assistance insurance, compare plans and find one that best suits your needs.

Can I Use Roadside Assistance After an Accident?

If you have an accident, your roadside assistance coverage may be used to help you. Typically, roadside assistance will cover the cost of towing your vehicle to a safe location. Some plans may also cover the cost of repairs if your vehicle is not drivable. Be sure to check your auto insurance policy to see what is covered.

What to Expect When You Request Roadside Assistance Services

When you experience vehicle trouble, you will usually be able to contact your roadside assistance provider through an app or by calling an assistance line.

Once emergency roadside services are requested, a tow truck or other service vehicle will be dispatched to your location. The service provider will assess the situation and provide the necessary assistance. Be sure to have your insurance information handy so that they can bill your insurance company directly.
